Geometry in fashion
It's me again people! I hope you had an amazing week :) Today I am talking about geometry in fashion, one of my many passions. At first sight, you would imagine they have nothing in common. Well, geometry is pretty much in the fashion world. Just, let me show you how!
Geometry is vital in the world of fashion, as numerous well-known designers over the years have implemented this mathematical branch in their catwalks, silhouettes, patterns and prints. Geometric prints reach haute couture creating daring, futuristic designs with new materials.
An example of this are the creations of Maya Hansen through patterns with volumes and prints that use geometry as a common thread in their designs. From bodices destined to dress up shop windows and fashion magazines to trousers or dresses that could perfectly fit in our wardrobe.
Since ancient times, people have defined themselves as a set of proportions. In this field, mathematics are used to catalogue the different types of bodies. In the world of fashion, both bodies and faces have been classified by reference to geometric figures. For example, a body with large shoulders and a narrow hip is defined as an inverted triangle. The geometric shapes of faces have an impact on make-up, accessories or ornaments. Body shapes serve, for example, to orientate what kind of skirts, blouses or trousers should be included in the design of the dresses in order to favour the wearer as much as possible.
This approach to geometry can help those who are really into this topic. So, perhaps, including exercises about it in our class, can be a good way to promote good feelings and interest on mathematics. I am a teacher to be so I am always thinking about these things!
Moreover, geometry can be seen in the prints and shapes of the garments (asymmetrical garments are now very fashionable). Let me show you what I am talking about.

But also, geometry is found in accessories. From pendants, earrings and rings (the latter are usually circumferences), to hats and bags. We find all kinds of geometric shapes when it comes to accessories. Let me show you some examples.
