Geometry in photography

Hello once again my fellow readers! Today we are talking about geometry in photography as you should have probably guessed by the title. I cannot stress this enough when I say that I am really excited as this is one of my many passions. So, let's just get into it!

Geometry is an eternal part of visual composition. Its presence represents the ordering of forms to ensure that the ideas expressed in the image also have a structure that can be understood. In the field of photography, geometry could not be left out as a recurring element, its use also allows the image to be placed in a stable position and works as a guide to construct the different frames that can be made.

The horizontal and vertical lines found in the spaces around us, for example, can serve as a guide to correctly frame the photographs, placing them in a correct position with respect to the horizon and achieving the veracity and verisimilitude that this creative speciality is capable of boasting.

On the other hand, the repetitions, patterns and other sequences of shapes that can be achieved with the correct application of the rules of geometry make it possible to generate very interesting photographic series in which it is possible to exploit the different technical possibilities of the camera.

As I have said other times, I am a teacher to be and my main approach to geometry in these situations that I have been proposing these days, is that geometry can be found everywhere and, if you want it to be like that, it can be very fun. So, if you have students in your class who are interested in photography, do not hesitate to make them work with it to try to understand better the conceptss such as the lines, the planes and other shapes that can be more difficult. Try to engage them using a context that is near to them!

The following photographic examples show that geometric shapes are an essential part of most snapshots, regardless of their subject matter or objectives.

Geometric shapes can be perfectly visible and recognisable in our photographs, but they can also be present in other ways. And you will say, Paula, I don't think I understand. It's simple. If in a scene we distribute several elements with relevance and similarities, our mind will tend to join them and, as in the case of the photo I show you, form a triangle... Just like in the following image. Geometry can be hiden!

Fascinating, isn't it?

Let me show other examples of geometry in photography!

Before saying goodbye, I want to sahre with you this web page in which I have found really interesting information on how geometry can be used in photography. I hope you take a look at it! Here's the link:
